Better promotion of initiatives and leading generational change were amongst the suggestions
Twenty recommendations on travel and transport in Oxfordshire have been given to Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet by the members of the council’s first citizens’ assembly.
They met last Sunday to discuss what needs to happen to Oxfordshire’s transport system to enable the county’s health, economy, and environment to thrive in 2050.
The assembly is made up of thirty-four people who broadly represent Oxfordshire residents.
The suggestions they put forward include implementing standardised ticketing across all of the bus companies in the county, investing in educating and informing the public about transport and active travel options, and promoting generational change to get people to think of active travel first, bus second and car third.
The recommendations will be considered by the Cabinet next Tuesday.
Councillor Liz Leffman, Leader of Oxfordshire County Council, said: “I would like to thank members of the assembly for the huge commitment they have made to learning about and considering the issues we face in meeting some of our ambitious transport targets.
“I was struck by the sense of responsibility that I felt in the room on Sunday and I look forward to considering the assembly’s recommendations in detail. I am very thankful for their valuable contribution throughout this whole engagement process.”
