Gordon Ramsay has beaten off rival chef Jamie Oliver to be named the nations favourite

Gordon Ramsay has been crowned the best TV chef of all time.    The multi-Michelin starred Banbury trained chef, as famous for his foul mouthed on screen temper tantrums as he is for his cooking, came top with a resounding 41 percent of the vote.

Jamie Oliver came second with 31 percent if the vote.

The study, by insights agency Perspectus Global, found that national treasure and Bake Off Queen Mary Berry came third in the list of the best TV chefs, with a quarter of the vote.

Also on the list were culinary heavyweights Deliah Smith (24 percent), Nigella Lawson (23 percent), Rick Stein (20 percent) and the late great Keith Floyd (19 percent).

Gordon Ramsay spent his teenage years in Banbury, initially with his family in a flat above a shop in Bretch Hill.    When Gordon’s parents moved back to Scotland 16 year old Gordon and his sister moved to a nearby flat.

His interest in cooking led to him enrolling at North Oxfordshire Technical College (now Banbury and Bicester College) to study hotel management.   In the mid-1980s, he worked as a commis chef at the Wroxton House Hotel.

On hearing that Gordon had been named “best TV chef of all time” a spokesperson from Activate Learning for Banbury and Bicester College told Banbury FM: “We are delighted to hear the news.

“We are very proud to hear of his achievements as a former Banbury and Bicester College student, who sets a great example for our current Hospitality and Professional Cookery students.”

The study by Perspectus Global revealed that the average Brit watches up to five hours of cookery programmes every week, and that 71 percent will now search for a cookery clip online, rather than reaching for a recipe book.

Evie Porter of Perspectus Global said: “As the festive season approaches and the nation’s thoughts turn to food, we wanted to find out who the best loved TV chefs were, and it’s interesting to see that Gordan Ramsay, who has divided viewers with his sometimes foul-mouthed antics, has come out number one.

“What’s also fascinating is to see just how many of us now turn to video content when wanting to find a recipe, rather than looking in a book.”
