Community Policing Award for Banbury Special Sergeant
13/11/2024
Kev Royston joined Thames Valley Police as a Special Constable in 2018
A Banbury Special Sergeant has been given a Community Policing Award. Kev Royston received his award at an event on Monday.
He joined Thames Valley Police in 2018 as a Special Constable and since then has volunteered a significant number of hours to serve the community. This sits alongside his main employment as Cabin Crew for British Airways.
A positive attitude led to promotion to the role of Special Sergeant with responsibility for supporting and developing a team of Special Constables.
Special Sergeant Royston has been involved in a number of local initiatives including Operation Jin, which saw the reduction in youth violence in Banbury. He also volunteers his time to support local events such as Armed Forces Day and the Emergency Services Day.
Sergeant Sarah Nash, based at Banbury police station, said: “The Neighbourhood Team values the support of our Special Constabulary immensely.
“They are a vital asset to the team when policing events and combatting any community issues that may arise.
“Kev is an exemplary leader and his can do positive attitude is reflected through the team of Special Constables that he leads.
“We would be lost without him and it has been an absolute pleasure to watch him develop into the officer he is since he joined us in 2018.
“To see Kev recognised with this award makes us all very proud indeed as he truly is a worthy winner.”
Specials need to volunteer a minimum of 18 hours a month – equivalent to 216 hours a year. So far this year Special Sergeant Royston has volunteered 462 hours (630 hours in 2023).
The Community Policing Awards are held annually and celebrate people who make a significant impact on their communities across the Thames Valley. Presentations are made in a number of categories including Cadets, Police Officers, PCSOs, Volunteers and Special Constables.
