Conservative Leader says they find the petty squabbling by other groups unedifying

Councillor Barry Wood: “It is by no means clear what will happen at the AGM this evening”
The man who led the ruling Conservatives at Cherwell District Council up until the Local Elections says his group find the “petty squabbling unedifying”. Councillor Barry Wood told Banbury FM there was no obvious outcome to the Council’s AGM this evening.
Councillor Wood was responding to the public falling-out of the Labour and Progressive Oxfordshire Alliance groups, who had been trying to find agreement to form an alliance to take control of business at Cherwell.
Councillor Wood said: “We find all this petty squabbling unedifying. It is by no means clear what will happen at the AGM this evening.”
Earlier today the Leader of the Labour Group, Councillor Sean Woodcock, said his group will put themselves forward to run the Council this evening. With 12 Councillors Labour would need the support of the Liberal Democrats 10 Councillors and three others to take control at Cherwell.
With 20 Councillors the Conservatives only need the support of 5 other Councillors to retain control.
The Annual Council Meeting begins at 6.30pm at Bodicote House.
