Council sets aside £5m for Devolution and Reorganisation
24/01/2025
The money has been taken from other budgets
Oxfordshire County Council has set up a £5m fund to cover the costs of its work on Local Government Devolution and Reorganisation.
The cash will come from other budgets, with £1.3m from the “pay inflation budget” and £3.7m from contingency funds.
The government produced a White Paper in December outlining its devolution plans, which could see a new mayor for an area covering Oxfordshire and a single tier of local authority taking on the work of both Oxfordshire County and Cherwell District councils.
Earlier this month the county council’s cabinet agreed to send a letter to central government requesting that Oxfordshire is fast-tracked for local government reorganisation. They have created a page on their website to address questions local people may have in relation to the move.
