County Council happy that roads and schools can cope with Milcombe 50 homes proposal

Cherwell’s planning committee will have the final say on Thursday
A revised planning application to build 50 houses on a green field site in Milcombe is being recommended for acceptance by Cherwell District Council’s planning committee next week.
Both Milcombe and Bloxham Parish Councils objected to the application, but Oxfordshire County Council’s highways and education teams see no problem with the ability of local roads and schools being able to cope – as long as financial contributions (Section 106 funds) are included in any agreement.
An application to build 90 houses on the same farm field, to the southern side of the Bloxham Road and backing onto Portland Road, was rejected last year.
A revised application was subsequently lodged by members of the Smith family, working with Neptune Land Promotion Ltd. They noted the development can be delivered quickly, in the face of Cherwell not achieving the government’s house building targets.
Of the 50 homes proposed 18 would be classed as affordable. In the previous application land was offered for a new village hall and retail or commercial space, but this has been omitted from the current submission with the applicants saying: “Milcombe Parish Council have confirmed these community benefits are not required by the village.”
A pumping station to deal with foul water has been deemed necessary and included in the plans.
Cherwell’s Planning Committee will have the final say when they meet next Thursday.
