Crimestoppers sees increasing number of crimes reported to them in our area
20/01/2025
Anonymity is guaranteed to those reporting crimes to the charity
Crimestoppers has launched a new campaign to highlight their unique service of guaranteeing anonymity to people who contact them. It comes as they highlight an increasing number of crime reports made to them from across the Thames Valley.
The charity saw a 17 percent rise in reports from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire last year, when compared to two years before.
Their message is if you’re worried about someone who’s involved in crime, or you’ve seen criminal activity nearby, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously and they will pass on the information to law enforcement for you, confident that no one will know that you contacted Crimestoppers. It’s the same for Fearless – the charity’s service for young people.
Any phone number, device or location used cannot be traced and those making contact will never be asked for their name.
Crimestoppers is independent of the police and since launching in the late 1980s has always kept its guarantee of anonymity.
Beth Simpson, Regional Manager for the charity Crimestoppers, said: “Crimestoppers is here for people who feel unable to speak directly to the police. This may be because they fear retribution or because those involved are too close to home.
“If you know something or have a suspicion about a crime, you can tell our charity anonymously. Perhaps you think a property nearby is being used as a cannabis farm, maybe you suspect that a friend is suffering from domestic abuse, or you are aware of someone selling stolen goods.
“Whatever information you have, however small, you can tell our charity 100% anonymously. You can pass it on to us, and no one will ever know. We are not interested in who you are, just what you know.”
Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111 or here.
