French rider Romain Grégoire took the lead on the steep climb towards the finish line

The Lloyds Tour of Britain Men’s cycling race came to the north of our area today.

It was the half way point of six stages of the gruelling competition with today’s finish line at the top of the Burton Dassett Hills.

The riders set off at 10.30am from Atherstone in Warwickshire.   From here the 186.9km route took them south to Kites Hardwick and past Leamington Spa.   Next up they passed through Wellesbourne, Shipston and up Sun Rising hill in our direction.

At Burton Dassett they completed three laps of a circuit which included Farnborough and Avon Dassett.

Twenty-two-year-old French rider Romain Grégoire was first to cross the finish line at the summit of Burton Dassett after a perfectly timed race to the front with 200m to go.

Crowds of people had flocked to the country park to see the action.
