Delicious Sunday as Banbury tastes spring
11/04/2022
People flocked into town for Banbury Town Council’s first big event of 2022
Thousands of people ate, drank and soaked up the atmosphere at Sunday’s Taste of Spring Food Fayre in Banbury Market Place. Warm spring sunshine and live music accompanied the tasty treats available at over 50 stalls, with the air full of tempting smells and free samples available to get taste buds tingling.
Locally farmed salmon, fresh samosas, flavoured cheeses and spiced oils were all on offer alongside cuisines from around the world. Those with a sweet tooth could try doughnuts and cookies, cakes and baklava. Gins, wines, beers and other spirits were also available.
Banbury Town Mayor Councillor Shaida Hussain said: “The weather has been fantastic and it’s a great way to kick off our events calendar.
“Some of our stall holders booked in before COVID hit us and they’ve told us they been waiting for this for two years! The atmosphere is so busy – its really nice. I don’t think anyone needed persuading to come out in the lovely sun.”
Amongst the people who had made their way into town was Olivia Fenion, who said: “There’s a really nice variety of different foods and a really good atmosphere, with lots and lots of people out.”

Francis Barrett had taken the opportunity to enjoy food from two different vendors. He said: “The lamb was absolutely delicious and then these two [children] wanted a sausage and I couldn’t help myself and so had one of those as well!“
Youngsters were well catered for with an Easter Egg Hunt organised. Following a clue sheet children found letters to forming two relevant words –Easter Egg. Three prize-winners will each receive an Easter food hamper.
The Taste of Spring Food Fayre was organised by Banbury Town Council and was their first big event of 2022 – a year which will include the Platinum jubilee celebrations to mark the Queen’s 70 years as our monarch.
Town Mayor Councillor Shaida Hussain is really looking forward to Banbury marking the achievement. She said: “Its so exciting. Banbury has always done civic events so well. Its going to be lovely celebrating Her Majesty’s jubilee.
“We’ve gone the bank holiday with so many events planned. I’m really excited for the year.”
