Developer hopes to build on land around Hook Norton Sports and Social Club

L&Q Estates hope the application will be looked upon favourably as Cherwell doesn’t have the required 5-year housing supply

A developer has submitted an outline planning application to build up to 73 houses in Hook Norton.

L&Q Estates Ltd want to develop the land around Hook Norton Sports and Social Club, bordered by Clay Bank to the West.

Access into the site would be via a widened road next to the doctors surgery.

In an overview document the developers assert why they feel the application should be received positively, claiming that Cherwell District Council is unable to demonstrate a 5 year supply of housing and that the council’s relevant planning policies are out of date.   As demonstrated by the Vistry appeal, these are issues which could steer a Planning Inspector in favour of development, should it go to appeal if rejected locally.

In 2022 the Planning Inspector overruled a local planning decision to reject up to 43 new homes elsewhere in Hook Norton, on land north of Station Road.

The developer highlights the Oxfordshire Housing & Growth Deal, which was agreed when both Cherwell and the County Council were under Conservative control in 2017.   This provided up to £215 million of government funding in return for the county providing 100,000 new homes by 2031.

L&Q Estates Ltd say their proposals have taken into account the responses gained during a public consultation exercise, with 146 surveys completed.   They attended two Parish Council meetings but say no formal response was received following this.

The application was lodged on July 18 and people have until August 22 to submit their views.
