The grounds team at Banbury United can now water the pitch at the Spencer Stadium again thanks to the generosity of another Oxfordshire football club.

When the team arrived at the ground last Monday (June 30) they discovered their old water tank had burst, after succumbing to corrosion.   This left them without a working water supply for the newly re-laid pitch.

The head groundsman at Didcot Town heard about the club’s plight and arranged to have a new water tank donated to the Puritans.

A fundraising page to cover the costs of a new water tank has so far generated £3,152.   This will now be used for pumping and irrigation equipment for the pitch.

A spokesperson for Banbury United said: “We’ve been genuinely overwhelmed by the support shown by fans and the wider football family over the past few days – it’s moments like these that remind us how strong and united our community is.”
