Emergency road closure between Kings Sutton and Overthorpe
18/10/2021
A burst water main has caused a closure on a route set to be closed for three months soon
Motorists using a back road between Kings Sutton and Overthorpe have been caught out by an emergency road closure which has appeared over the weekend.
The Warkworth Road/Upper Astrop Road has been shut due to a burst water main. A team from Anglian Water repaired the burst overnight.
It is anticipated the road will be reopened by the middle of this week, once the road surface has been repaired.
An Anglian Water spokesperson said, “Our teams have repaired a burst water main overnight on the Warkworth Road/Upper Astrop Road of King Sutton. A road closure has been put in place while the team continues to work for their safety and the safety of road users.
“We are expecting the road to be reopened by the middle of this week once the road surface has been repaired. We would like to thank everyone for their patience while this emergency work is taking place.”
The current closure comes ahead of a planned closure on the same stretch for three months from November. Northamptonshire Highways intend to carry out major structural repairs to the bridge over the Farthinghoe stream, including the removal and replacement of the bridge parapets, new safety fencing and stonework repairs to the headwall.
Whilst the work is undertaken the road will be completely closed between November 8th and January 31st.
