The area next to Spiceball Park was cordoned off

Emergency services were unable to save the life of a man after being called to the Oxford Canal, adjacent to Spiceball Park, on Saturday lunchtime.

They were called to reports of a sudden death at around 12.30pm.

Thames Valley Police cordoned off the scene and people asked to avoid the area due to what was described as “a contained incident”.

A spokesperson for the force told Banbury FM: “We were called at around 12.30pm on Saturday (14/3) to the canal adjacent to Spiceball Park, following reports of a sudden death.

“Emergency services attended but sadly a man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“His death is being treated as unexplained, but not suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
