Enforcement notice served on Sanctuary Housing Association

Council acts to ensure a stinking drainage leak at a local home is finally fixed

Sanctuary Housing Association have been served with a Section 59 Building Act enforcement notice after failing to organise repair work at a Banbury family home, where a stinking drainage leak has flooded part of the property’s garden for several months.

Yesterday we told you that the ongoing issue was first reported in October.   Councillor Sean Woodcock, leader of the Labour Group at Cherwell District Council, described the situation as “appalling”.   He told Sanctuary their position was a “total failure to protect tenants which you should be absolutely ashamed of”.

Cherwell District Council gave Sanctuary Housing until the close of business yesterday to provide a date when the required repair work will begin.  A spokesperson for the Council said if the Association failed to do so they would immediately serve them with a Section 59 Building Act enforcement notice.   This would require the Housing Association to make good the drain.    A continued failure to repair the drain could see Cherwell undertake the works and recharge Sanctuary Housing.

Banbury FM understands that a Section 59 Building Act enforcement notice has now been issued.
