Enterprising year six students at Hill View Primary School wanted to make their leaving party the very best it could be, so they decided to roll up their sleeves to earn enough money to pay for something special.

The youngsters approached their teachers with the idea of holding their own fund-raising fete.   The school agreed with the proviso that the children had to organise the whole event.

Armed with a £100 seed fund provided by the school pupils set to work designing stalls and producing promotional posters.

The fete was held on Tuesday (July 16) featuring an array of stalls set up around the playground, including Splat the Rat, Beat the Goalkeeper, Hook a Duck, cakes and hotdogs.

Members of the whole community were invited with plenty of family fun and prizes won.

At the conclusion of the event the pupils had raised an amazing £711!

Head of School, Becky Rorich, said: “The fete was a lovely, school family event which demonstrated the collaborative work of the Year 6 pupils, with a little support from their teachers! We are so proud of them.”

As a result of their entrepreneurial skills the pupils and year six staff will celebrate the conclusion of their Hill View journey with an evening of bowling and pizzas together.
