Two off-duty police officers administered CPR, trying to save the woman’s life

A woman lost her life following a multi-vehicle collision on the M40 this morning (Tuesday).   Emergency services were called to the crash on the northbound carriageway between Junction 11 at Banbury and Junction 12  at Gaydon at around 7.37am.

Two off-duty police officers were first at the collision.   They performed CPR on the women, as did the emergency services who arrived shortly afterwards, but despite their efforts, sadly, the woman died at the scene.

In addition to the crash on the northbound carriageway a minor collision also happened on the southbound carriageway between the same junctions.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

DS Stephen Barr of the Serious Collision Investigation Team said: “This was a serious incident which has seen a woman tragically lose her life.

“We are conducting a full investigation and we are now asking for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has dashcam footage, to please get in touch with us.

“Of particular interest to officers is any footage of a black Volkswagen Polo that was travelling northbound between junctions 11 and 12 between 07:00 and 07:37 this morning.

“We would also like to hear from the driver of a white Luton-style van which the Polo was in collision with as they may have vital information.

“Vehicles on the southbound carriageway were also affected by the collision as two cars heading southbound took evasive action, resulting in a further collision and we would appeal for any footage from those travelling southbound also.”

Anyone with footage or information is asked to contact police by calling 101 or visiting this website, quoting incident 39 of April 11.

Following the collision the northbound M40 from junction 11 was closed all morning with traffic using a signed diversion route following Hennef Way and the Southam Road.   The motorway reopened at around 1.45pm.
