Fire caused by glass ornament in direct sunlight
16/02/2024
A plant pot caught fire after being heated up by reflected sunlight
The dangers of leaving glass ornaments in direct sunlight were highlighted today after firefighters were called to a smoke-filled Banbury home where a fire had been started by reflected sunlight.
A crew from Green Watch at Banbury station attended the incident on Nursery Drive.
They found the home filled with smoke and tracked down the cause to a plant pot which had caught fire after being heated up by reflected sunshine from a glass or crystal sphere left in a window.
Following the incident Watch Manager Cowley from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service emphasised the critical importance of keeping glass ornaments away from direct sunlight.
