Saturday evening clean-up needed after white transit abandoned rubbish in the village

Shocked villagers in Kings Sutton couldn’t believe what they were seeing on Saturday evening as fly-tippers dumped rubbish in the village.   Two men opened the doors of a white transit van and began piling the contents on the edge of the road opposite the White Horse pub.

It was only when pub-goers started taking pictures of what was happening that the men drove off.   They then abandoned another pile of rubbish further along Mill Lane before dumping more items by the village entrance.

Concerned residents contacted Adrian Barry who runs the village’s Neighbourhood Watch scheme and also oversees the team of litter pickers who keep the village tidy.   He lives close to where some of the rubbish had been dumped.

Mr Barry said: “I thought from the perspective in the photo I had seen it wasn’t that bad, so I took one black bag and said I would quickly pop out and clean it up – it should take five minutes.

“When I opened my front door I could see a massive pile and realised how big it was.”

Having called on the services of a friend the dumped rubbish was cleared during the evening involving a number of trips using a Land Rover.

The rubbish was fly-tipped at around 7pm and included items that would be used by a food establishment including cooking oil drums, waste food, chip boxes and spices.   The registration number of the vehicle used was caught by those taking pictures and this, together with other evidence, has now been passed to both the police and West Northants District Council.

Mr Barry said of the fly-tippers: “It’s just disrespectful.   They’ve no regard for anyone else other than just their own selfish ways.”
