Frustration that abandoned stolen motorbike was not reported

People instead posted pictures on social media

Police have recovered a stolen motorbike from Banbury’s Princess Diana Park thanks to an off-duty member of the Banbury Neighbourhood Team spotting posts about the abandoned vehicle on social media.

Officers have described the fact nobody chose to inform them directly as “frustrating”.

The owner will now be contacted with enquiries relating to the theft continuing.   Anyone who saw the motorbike being ridden after midnight on March 24 is asked to contact officers on 101, or online, quoting reference 43250142222.

In urging people to always make reports directly, rather than just posting on social media, a spokesperson said: “Despite there being lots of pictures and posts on Facebook nobody had actually considered calling us to tell us, which is somewhat frustrating.

“To all the negative comments saying ‘where are Police’ – we cannot be in every park / on every street 24 hours.

“We rely on the support of the public in reporting such activity so that we can respond and investigate appropriately.”
