Gas supply problems enter third day
01/07/2024
Southern Gas Network’s Customer Service Team have set up a base at Ruscote Community Centre
We’re into a third day with no gas supply for a number of homes in the Hardwick area of Banbury after water leaked into the system on Saturday.
Engineers have discovered that the flood water has got further into the system than initially envisaged.
By yesterday afternoon Southern Gas Networks had pumped out 6,500 litres of flood water, but for safety reasons they can only do this when the supplies at local properties have been isolated.
A team have today been trying to visit around 40 houses where this work is yet to be completed. They are also attempting to gain access to 16 homes that are currently unoccupied.
Supplies can only be reconnected when all the water has been removed from the system.
Southern Gas Network’s Customer Service Team have set up a base at Ruscote Community Centre. They can make available portable heaters and hot plates for cooking for those who need them. The company says people will be compensated for the time without gas.
Meanwhile Thames Water has confirmed they were called to a burst water mains pipe outside St Francis Church on Saturday. They isolated the burst pipe at around midnight and carried out the necessary repairs yesterday.
