There are eight candidates standing in both the Banbury and South Northamptonshire constituencies
The names of the candidates hoping to secure our vote at the General Election on July 4 have been released.
The redefined Banbury constituency now includes Chipping Norton, but excludes Bicester. Victoria Prentis hopes to regain her seat in parliament, but faces competition from 7 other candidates, including Labour’s Sean Woodcock, who is the long-serving leader of the Labour Group at Cherwell District Council.
Also standing are Liz Adams (Liberal Democrats), Arron Baker (The Green Party), Cassi Bellingham (Independent), Chris Nevile (Climate Party), Declan Soper (Social Democratic Party) and Paul Topley (Reform UK)
In South Northamptonshire there are also eight candidates standing. Sarah Bool is hoping to hold on to the seat for the Conservatives, following Dame Andrea Leadsom’s announcement that she wouldn’t be re-standing.
Former Northampton Town Mayor Rufia Ashraf will be standing for the Labour Party, along Paul Hogan (Reform UK), Ian McCord(Independent), Stuart Robert (Independent), Mick Stott (Workers Party), Stewart Tolley (Liberal Democrats) and Emmie Williamson (Green Party).
Those wanting to vote in July have until Tuesday June 18 to ensure they are registered. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday June 19.
