Katharine House is now seeking volunteer Open Gardens Ambassadors to help with next year’s plans

The area’s green fingered home-owners – and those who went to see the fruits of their labours – helped raise nearly £8,000 for Katharine House Hospice this year.

The annual Open Gardens Scheme ran through the spring and summer months, with dedicated gardeners opening up their outdoor spaces for the general public to visit in return for a donation to the Adderbury based hospice.

Villagers in Adderbury, Middleton Cheney, Culworth, Chipping Norton and the owners of Broughton Grange took part this year.

Katharine House is now looking for new villages or gardens to add to their calendar of events for 2025.

They are also seeking volunteer Open Gardens Ambassadors to help with the scheme, searching out Open Garden hosts to join the annual campaign.

Rachel Burns, Community Engagement Officer, said: “I’m excited we have this new volunteering role, especially for someone who’s passionate and enthusiastic about gardening and horticulture.   You will be playing a key role in helping to identify new gardens in our hospice’s local catchment area.

“This is perfect for anyone who loves gardens and enjoys being out in our local community to inspire hosts to support and take part in our Open Gardens scheme. Our supporters love to visit new and existing gardens each year and this new volunteering role will be wonderful in helping the campaign bloom!”
