Hearing date set for Huscote Farm planning appeal
10/01/2025
The applicant has twice been told “no” to warehousing east of the A361
A date has been set for the Planning Appeal hearing into Cherwell District Council’s decision to reject an application to build on 140,000 square metres of farmland at Huscote Farm near Nethercote.
The applicant, Greystoke CB, proposed building “up to ten new buildings no higher than 23metres” on land east of the A361 at its junction with the M40, opposite where a number of large units have already been constructed.
The application was rejected by councillors in March and was the second unsuccessful submission for the greenfield site. A previous speculative application in May 2022 had been fast-tracked to appeal before councillors had a chance to consider it. That appeal was withdrawn after the applicant failed to supply the information requested by the Planning Inspector.
In rejecting the latest application fifteen reasons were provided as to why it wasn’t suitable, including air quality issues, the site being unallocated in the local plan, the visual impact and traffic issues.
At the meeting Councillor Phil Chapman described the area as “a thing of beauty” and added “to destroy it would be disgraceful.”
Since an appeal against the decision was lodged the Planning Inspector has been gathering evidence. The appeal hearing will begin at Bodicote House on Tuesday February 4 and eight days have been allowed for this.
