Heyford Park won’t be one of the government’s new towns

24/03/2026

It remains viewed as a credible development opportunity

The government has announced the location of seven new towns as part of its push to accelerate housebuilding, but Heyford Park hasn’t made the shortlist.

The selected areas will be expected to deliver at least 10,000 homes – several of them, including Milton Keynes, will deliver 40,000 more homes.

The former air base by Upper Heyford was one of six areas considered for the project which aren’t being taken forward.   However it is still deemed to be a credible development opportunity and may continue to be supported through existing housing programmes.

Currently a planning application for 9,000 more homes at Heyford Park is being considered.
