Hospice shop shut for a couple of days due to roof leak

Staff at the Katharine House Hospice shop in Banbury returned after the bank holiday weekend to discover a roof leak had led to parts of their shop becoming flooded.
Since yesterday when the problem was first discovered the popular shop, in Bridge Street, has remained closed to allow the floor to dry and the electric supply to be checked. Thankfully most of the shop’s stock was unaffected.
Katharine House recently renewed the lease on the building for another ten years. It’s the first time a leak has happened. It occurred just ahead of the shop undergoing refurbishment work.
The problem was due to an issue with the drainage system, which led to water from the weekend’s wet weather on the flat roof having nowhere to go.
Katharine House Hospice’s Head of Retail, Scott Bloomfield, said: “We were unable to open today as the carpet on the middle floor is still wet. We’ve now lifted the carpet, effectively taking away the problem, and will be fitting a new carpet in a few weeks’ time as part of our planned refurb of the store.
“Luckily there was minimal stock damage and very few items were lost.
“We want to thank all our customers and our donors for bearing with us and we hope to be back in business in the next couple of days.”
