Icy conditions: 5-vehicle collision and events cancelled

The cold weather will continue through the weekend
A dusting of snow, ice and freezing conditions arrived overnight, leading to treacherous driving conditions across our area.
Emergency services were called at 10.11am to a collision involving five vehicles where Camp Lane meets B4086 to the north of Ratley. The driver of one of the vehicles sustained injuries which weren’t thought to be serious, but he was taken to the Horton General Hospital for further assessment.
The Burton Dassett Hills and Run Rising Hill were both noted as particularly difficult with reports of cars sliding and getting stuck.
Cherwell District Council’s refuse crews were out collecting, but warned that the slippery road and footpath conditions meant they might not be able to complete all their rounds. Those that weren’t reached were told to leave their bins out so they can be emptied as soon as possible.
The cold spell is set to continue through the weekend and into next week.
This has led West Northamptonshire Council to activate their Severe Weather Emergency Protocol. This means that rough sleepers in the district will be provided with somewhere warm and dry to stay overnight. The protocol will remain in force until at least 9am on Monday.
The organisers of Saturday’s Banbury Park Run have cancelled tomorrow’s event. They say that having undertaken a course check there are too many icy patches to hold a safe event. With sub-zero temperatures forecast overnight they are unlikely to thaw.
