Illness and injury bring abrupt end to Saints run in Hillier Cup

The club have withdrawn so as not to compromise the integrity of the competition
Brackley Town have been forced to withdraw from this season’s Hillier (Senior County) Cup competition due to injuries and illness within their squad. The club was due to play a semi-final tie against Peterborough Sports on Tuesday evening.
During this week’s league game at Chester the Saints were only able to name thirteen outfield players from their first team squad of 20. They say that with little prospect of this situation improving in the short term, rather than compromising the integrity of the Hillier Cup competition they believe that withdrawal was the only correct course of action.
In a statement the club apologised to the Northamptonshire Football Association and Peterborough Sports.
The decision means that Peterborough will face either AFC Rushden and Diamonds First or Bugbrooke St. Michael in the Hillier Cup final.
The Hillier Cup is a county cup for Northamptonshire football clubs which has been running since 1883.
