Image released after man assaulted during early hours in Banbury shop

Police are trying to track down a man who punched and kneed another man in the head during the early hours of a Sunday morning in a Banbury town centre shop.

The offender had been in the shop on Broad Street trying to purchase alcohol but was refused service by the shop owner.

The victim, who’s in his thirties, entered the shop to buy a bottle of water.   When he began speaking with the shop owner the offender became agitated and assaulted the victim by punching and kneeing him to his head.   The offender then made off towards the train station.

The victim sustained facial injuries which required hospital treatment, but has since been discharged.

The assault took place at around 3am on Sunday August 11.

Thames Valley Police has released the image of an individual they would like to speak to in relation to the case.

Investigating officer PC Matthew Whitehead, based at Banbury police station, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may recognise the individual in this image to please get in touch as he may have vital information about this incident.

“This incident happened during the busy night time economy in Banbury, as people would have been making their way home.

“We ask that anyone who may have dash-cam, CCTV footage, or mobile phone footage that could assist our enquiry to please come forward.
