International Women’s Day
08/03/2022
Events are running to encourage the next generation of female leaders and motivators
Today is International Women’s Day and inspirational and motivated women from the Banbury FM area have been sharing messages.
Banbury Town Mayor, Councillor Shaida Hussain said: “Happy International Women’s Day to women all over the world who continue to fight for equality, education, freedom, justice and peace. Especially thinking of the women of Afghanistan and Ukraine.”
Banbury’s MP Victoria Prentis showed her support for those affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. She said: “This [International Women’s Day] we stand united with the brave women of Ukraine at this dreadful time.”
The theme of the day is #BreakTheBias, looking to a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination which is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.
A series of arts, community and business events have been running for the last few days at The Mill Arts Centre, all inspired by great women throughout history. Today virtual speed-mentoring sessions have been taking place, with local business and community members connecting with girls for short mentoring sessions online, encouraging the next generation of female leaders.
The organisers of International Women’s Day Banbury have chosen Katharine House Hospice as their charity for 2022.
