18 months for man involved in high speed 21-mile pursuit on motorway

A man who drove up the M40 past Banbury reaching speeds up to 140 miles per hour has been jailed for 18 months.

Adrian Osiecki, aged 30, of Aldbourne Road in Coventry, was spotted at around 2pm on February 1 this year on the A34 near Oxford.   ANPR cameras detected that his car was displaying false plates.

Officers attempted to stop Osiecki, but he made off without stopping.

The vehicle was later observed again on the M40 heading north out of the Thames Valley area.   Again, he made off hitting speeds in excess of 140mph.

Osiecki undertook a series of dangerous manoeuvres, including overtaking vehicles on the hard shoulder and the central reservation.

A 21-mile pursuit ensued with officers from Warwickshire Police, assisted by the National Police Air Service deployed to intercept the vehicle in case it left the motorway.

When Osiecki eventually exited the motorway he crashed the vehicle into a roundabout, before making off on foot.

He was quickly detained by Warwickshire officers and was found to have no insurance, an expired driving licence and was driving under the influence of drugs.

In a hearing at Warwick Crown Court last Tuesday (September 21) Osiecki pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, drug driving, driving a vehicle while otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving with no insurance and failing to stop for police.   He was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment.

Investigating officer PC Steve Lane of the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing, based at Bicester, said: “The manner of Osiecki’s driving was utterly horrendous, putting both himself and other road users at great risk.

“This is a significant jail term for a dangerous, unlicensed and uninsured driver, who, while under the influence of drugs, was so intent to get away that he drove at speeds more than twice the limit, showing no regard for the safety of other road users.”
