More money is available to hospices in England from April
Katharine House Hospice has received £35,454 of government money as part of a scheme to fund major upgrades and refurbishment at hospices across England.
£25 million has been released by the Department of Health and Social Care to modernise facilities, improve IT systems and ensure patients receive the highest quality care. Its hoped the improvements will help ensure that during life’s most challenging moments patients and their loved ones receive the highest quality care in the most appropriate and comfortable settings.
The money has been allocated by Hospice UK.
Having lobbied on behalf of the hospice, Banbury’s MP Sean Woodcock welcomed the investment. He said: “I’m delighted that the Labour government has allocated this important funding to our hospices.
“We want a society where every person receives high-quality, compassionate care from diagnosis through to the end of life.
“Katharine House Hospice do a wonderful job at providing support for people with life-limiting conditions and their loved ones. I hope that this government funding will make a real difference to the support they can provide to constituents.”
Katharine House CEO, Emma Radley, said: “We are delighted to receive a £35,454 government grant, which will go towards supporting our patients and their families when they need us most. We are incredibly grateful to Hospice UK and the Government for their determination to secure some additional funding and for helping to highlight the importance of hospices like ours. At Katharine House, we are committed to providing compassionate end-of-life care, but like most hospices, we are struggling with rising costs and lower donation levels.
“While this government funding will provide some relief during a challenging time for the sector, it is important to recognise that it only addresses a fraction of the financial pressures we face, over a short period of time. Sustainable, long-term funding solutions for the everyday costs of running the vital services are needed to ensure that hospices can continue to deliver for their communities and meet the growing demand for specialist care.”
An additional £75 million will be available for hospices in England from April to support more substantial capital projects.
