Last market of 2021 with growth plans for 2022
23/12/2021
It has been a challenging year for market organisers and traders
Today has been the last Banbury Market of 2021 and the final chance for shoppers to pick up anything they may need from the traders for the festive period. After the Christmas and New Year break the market will return with plans afoot to grow the number of stalls and days the market operates.
Back in January it was a testing start to the year for the charter market, with COVID restrictions meaning only essential traders were able to attend.
Through the months – and as restrictions eased – trader numbers increased and additional market days were added.
An extra Farmers Market has become a part of the programme in recent years, running on the first Friday of the month, alongside the Thursday and Saturday markets.
In September a further expansion of the programme saw an extra Food Market trialled.
As we head into 2022 it looks like Cherwell District Council plans to further expand the market. Budget proposals for next year show an additional £35,000 of income, which is noted as coming from selling more pitches and having more markets running.
