Local events lined up for Great Big Green Week
09/06/2023
A plant sale and swap and bat walk are amongst local opportunities to get involved
Great Big Green Week begins this weekend. The national campaign is run by The Climate Coalition and encourages nine days of action to raise awareness of climate change and demonstrate how community led action can make a difference.
Around Oxfordshire over 70 events have been organised including a tour of a solar farm, clothes swaps and repair cafes.
Locally, in Bloxham tomorrow, the Great Big Plant Swap and Sale in the garden at the Elephant and Castle will be offering vegetable plants, herbs, bee-loving flowers and other plants, alongside seeds and gardening books.
Tomorrow evening in Nethercote we’re invited to join a bat walk to learn more about how studying bats can help us understand the wider health of the UK’s wildlife.
A dedicated website lists other events running through the next week and local events can be found on the Banbury FM Events Guide.
Councillor Pete Sudbury is Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Environment. He said: “Great Big Green Week is a wonderful opportunity for communities to get even more involved in environmental projects and so demonstrate the importance we know they place on tackling climate change.
“As a council we are excited to help fund some of these events and would encourage people to enjoy taking part in their local events.”
