Local recognition of International Women’s Day
08/03/2023
#EmbraceEquity is this year’s campaign theme
To mark International Women’s Day people around the Banbury FM area have been noting the inspirational women in their lives.
Katharine House shared pictures of staff members, thanking them for the work they undertake across all areas of the Hospice. They also highlighted the work of Dame Cicely Saunders – a pioneer of palliative care who is said to have founded the hospice movement and transformed the way we look at death and dying.
At Bloxham Mill they noted today is all about celebrating the amazing women out there, from their female team, to the Mill’s members and the abundance of women-led suppliers and local businesses that surround them. To mark the occasion they have been offering all their members a chocolate treat.
Cherwell District Councillors chose International Women’s Day to show their solidarity with the Council’s staff by signing up to the Menopause Workplace Pledge. Founded by the charity Wellbeing of Women, the pledge looks to address what support can be accessed in the workplace for those affected by the menopause and how employers can create and encourage an open dialogue to ensure any issues in relation to the menopause can be identified and addressed.
Councillor Les Sibley, Chairman of the council, said: “We are very proud to show our commitment to our staff through signing up to the Menopause Workplace Pledge. As an employer we value our staff and the significance of creating a workplace with a culture of support where employees feel able to talk openly, positively and respectfully about the menopause.
“Being a part of this campaign has given us the opportunity to build upon the support that we already have in place to further reflect how the menopause can impact the workplace. We will be continuing this conversation to ensure that everyone can understand how the menopause can significantly affect the lives of many.”
#EmbraceEquity is the theme of International Women’s Day 2023, with the campaign highlighting equity isn’t just a nice-to-have, it’s a must-have with a focus on gender equity needing to be part of every society’s DNA.
