Local roads set for surface dressing

Two local roads are set to be given a new surface dressing as part of an annual programme by West Northamptonshire Council. The B4031 through Croughton and Station Road from Aynho towards Clifton are noted as roads that will be worked on between now and September 13.
The two local roads are amongst eight in Northamptonshire which have been selected as they are in the initial stages of deterioration. Surface dressing sees a layer of bitumen laid and then covered with loose chippings to seal the road surface and provide better grip for vehicles.
The Council describes the process as a “cost-effective, preventative treatment with greater carbon efficiency when compared to resurfacing methods”. It is estimated it can help to extend the life of a road by up to ten years.
Cllr Phil Larratt, Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport, Highways and Waste at West Northamptonshire Council said: “We are delighted to be working with our Highways partner, Kier to launch our annual surface dressing programme.
“These works form a key part of our strategy to balance reactive and proactive road maintenance to improve the condition of our roads, with greater investment to create a more positive experience for our residents and road-users.”
Drivers are warned that following the surface dressing there is an increased risk of skidding on any loose chippings.
Work is weather dependent and cannot take place when it is raining. Local people will be given 48-72 hours notice of any work starting.
