The winners of this year’s Oxfordshire Care Awards were announced on Monday.   The awards for the Newcomer to Care and the Care Home Worker of the Year both went to people working for the Julie Richardson Nursing Home in Banbury.

The Newcomer to Care Award was won by Chris Rees, who is a chef from the Dashwood Road based home.   He was acknowledged as delivering “nutrition and hydration responsively, by adjusting menus to deal with common issues like weight loss, dysphagia, and dementia by developing and providing fitting alternatives.”

Daniel Smeu-Mare, who also works for the Julie Richardson Nursing Home, was named the Care Home Worker of the Year.   Jade Betts, who works for Highmarket House Care Home in North Bar Place, was highly commended in the same category.

The Oxfordshire Care Awards are organised by Oxfordshire Association of Care Providers and hosted in partnership with Action for Carers Oxfordshire and Age UK Oxfordshire.

Eleven winners were announced during a ceremony at the Voco Oxford Thames Hotel in Sandford-on-Thames.   All winners received an engraved glass trophy, a framed certificate and a cash prize ranging from £250 to £5000.

Karen Fuller, Oxfordshire County Council’s Interim Director for Adult Social Care, said: “The Oxfordshire Care Awards give us the chance to acknowledge excellence in care, celebrating the people making a difference to some of our most vulnerable residents.

“From unpaid carers and volunteers to established care companies, each plays a valuable part in how we deliver adult social care here in Oxfordshire. It’s been an honour to attend the event and celebrate their achievements.”

Eddy McDowall, CEO of Oxfordshire Association of Care Providers, said: “It’s always a privilege to be involved in the Oxfordshire Care Awards. Our awards give the whole community a chance to pause, reflect and thank the hard working people in our industry, celebrating those moments where people go above and beyond what’s expected.”
