Local winners heading to next stage of competition for young chefs

Seven young chefs took part in the local final

Two students from Bloxham School have made it through to the district heats of the Rotary Club’s Chef of the Year competition.

Local winner Poppy and runner-up Kia will be heading to Newbury this Saturday for the next stage of UK wide competition.

They beat five other finalists at the Banbury heat of, held at Wykham Park Academy’s Futures building on January 14.   Here the finalists were asked to prepare and serve a two-course healthy meal comprising a main course and dessert for two people, costing up to £18.

A judging team complimented the young chefs, highlighting high culinary standards and the technical use of sauces and additives.

The eventual winner of the Rotary Young Chef National Final will receive a prize of a two-day trip to Tuscany, which includes cookery classes to learn the secrets of regional Italian cooking.
