Two programmes are available to improve health and boost energy and mental wellbeing

We’re being encouraged to take advantage of local wellbeing initiatives to help make 2025 our healthiest year yet.

Cherwell District Council offers programmes such as Move Together and You Move to improve health and boost energy and mental wellbeing.

The Move Together scheme helps people living with long-term health conditions to receive individualised and holistic support to help them begin their journey to better physical and mental health.  Last year 64 percent of those using Move Together said their perception of their health had improved, and 51 per cent shared that they had fewer visits to their GP.

Meanwhile the You Move programme helps families try out new activities and spend time together.   Its open to children who receive free school meals and their parents, with a range of free or low-cost physical and lifestyle activities available.

Councillor Rob Pattenden, Portfolio Holder for Healthy Communities, said: “The biggest and most important step in any journey is the first one, no matter the size of it, and the wonderful thing about our available programmes is that there is someone there to help you to take it.

“I have always been so thrilled to hear about the amazing achievements of our residents on Move Together, whether that is improved mental health, making new friends or improving or reversing health issues.

“Our Youth Activator team are always delighted to see and meet local families at the sessions they hold throughout the year as part of the You Move initiative. Getting outside and taking part in group activities, particularly with your children, is a fun way to get your recommended exercise while spending time together.”
