Police say people witnessing knife crime should call 999 immediately
Police in Banbury were only informed that a male with a knife had been seen near a local school when the school were told and informed officers – the day after the event.
The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday afternoon (March 18) near Hardwick Primary School. The incident was reported to the police yesterday morning.
Police patrols took place after school yesterday afternoon, but no male matching the description was located. The patrols are set to continue.
Banbury Neighbourhood Team are now investigating the incident and undertaking CCTV enquiries in the area. The school have been supporting the investigation and providing safeguarding for children.
Anybody who witnessed the incident, or has any knowledge of it, is asked to contact officers online, or on 101, quoting reference 43250134251.
A police spokesperson said: “We would encourage anybody who witnesses somebody with a knife to call us on 999 at the time. We take reports of knife crime extremely seriously and will update further when we are in a position to do so.”
