Man sent to prison after stealing and crashing a Brackley family’s car

Adam Spittles was sentenced to five years and six months behind bars
A man who stole and crashed a Brackley family’s car has been sent to prison.
Thirty-year-old Adam Spittles entered a house in Juliet Drive during the morning of July 24 last year. He stole the keys to a Mercedes car.
The occupants were in the house at the time. They awoke to the car engine starting and Spittles driving away in their car.
The car was fitted with a tracker which the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter used to identify it speeding along the A5 in excess of 100mph.
Eventually, Spittles lost control of the vehicle near Milton Keynes, with it ending up on its roof. He attempted to run away but was detained by officers a short time later.
Only 25 minutes had passed between the time of offence and the time Spittles was arrested.
Last week Spittles, who is previously of Luton, appeared at Northampton Crown Court where he was sentenced for the burglary and separate driving matters. He was sent to prison for five years and six months.
Lead Investigator – PC Chris Perkins, said: “During this incident, Adam Spittles entered the home of the victim with no regard for anyone but himself.
“Someone’s home is the one place where they should always feel safe and secure, and people like Spittles completely violate this right.
“As well as this, he helped himself to the family car and drove at ridiculous speeds to avoid capture, showing a complete disregard for other motorists and leaving a trail of destruction before he eventually crashed.
“Even then, he thought he could get away from police but was detained a short distance away in a field.
“Tackling burglary is a priority for us so I am happy that Spittles was found guilty by members of the jury and handed this sentence at Crown Court.”
