Man with knife sought after attempted robbery in Peoples Park
18/06/2022
The man left the scene after a witness approached the couple the suspect was trying to steal from
A couple in Banbury’s Peoples Park were threatened by a man with a knife who demanded the victim hand over their wallet. The suspect left the scene after a witness saw the encounter and walked over to the couple.
The attempted robbery happened on Thursday (June 16) between 6.10pm and 6.20pm.
The man initially approached the couple as they sat on a bench close to the fitness area. After he demanded the victim’s wallet he lifted up his top to show a knife tucked in his waist band.
The witness saw this from a distance and approached the couple. The suspect walked off towards the alleyway in the direction of West Bar Street.
The male suspect is described as white, late teens to early 20s, 6 feet tall, unshaven with scruffy ginger facial hair. He wore a black unzipped hoody with the hood up, dark top underneath, black joggers and black Nike trainers with a white sole.
Thames Valley Police are appealing for any witnesses to the attempted robbery to come forward. They would like to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity at the time who thinks they saw the suspect.
Reports can be made online, or by phoning 101, quoting reference 43220263974.
The incident comes just five days after a 21-year-old man was left fighting for his life after a stabbing incident in Peoples Park. A 15-year-old boy from Oxford and two 16-year-old boys from Banbury have been charged with attempted murder.
