Mill Arts Centre gets programme cash boost as it joins Arts Council portfolio
12/04/2023
The money will help the centre provide the best creative and cultural experiences
An investment of £183,000 every year for three years is heading to The Mill Arts Centre in Banbury. The money will support the development of centre’s programme and ensure they are able to offer the very best creative and cultural experiences for all sections of our local community.
The cash comes as the Mill officially joins the Arts Council England’s National Portfolio as a National Portfolio Organisation. This is a move that gives access to a new source of investment into creativity and culture in the Cherwell area.
The Mill’s Chief Executive Andrew Lister said: “We are thrilled to be joining Arts Council England’s National Portfolio which is a pivotal moment in The Mill’s development and brings significant new investment to Banbury and Cherwell. This is a real vote of confidence, not only for The Mill, but for the important role that local Arts Centres play in building healthy and happy communities through offering high quality creative and cultural experiences.”
Emma Hirons, Creative Director, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to help make Banbury an even more vibrant and creative town, with The Mill at its heart. We are committed to making sure that this investment from Arts Council England will enable us to develop programmes that inspire even more people to get involved, with amazing things to see and do right on our doorstep both in Banbury and beyond. We can’t wait to share more details as our plans take shape over the coming months.”
The Mill offers a range of experiences with a 237-seat theatre playing host to drama, dance, music, comedy and family events. The venue also has a gallery and studios, which host a thriving programme of workshops and classes.
