Flooding around The Mill in January

The latest extension runs close to when the bowling club would normally resume their activities

The use of a pop-up theatre at the Woodgreen Leisure Centre by the Mill Arts Centre has been extended again.   All scheduled performances until September 2 will now take place there.

It is now six months since the Mill’s main auditorium was closed, initially as a temporary measure, after staff discovered damage to the floor in the wake of the building being surrounded by flood water.

The Woodgreen Leisure Centre’s hall was converted into a dedicated space for live performances back in April, at the conclusion of Banbury Indoor Bowling Club’s season.

The initial plan was to use the pop-up theatre until the end of June, but with the main auditorium repairs taking longer than anticipated the end date has now been extended twice.   This latest extension runs to just a few weeks before Banbury Indoor Bowling Club would normally restart using the hall.

Ticket holders for all performances up to September 2 have been contacted with information about the change of venue.

A spokesperson said: “We are immensely grateful to the Woodgreen team and Cherwell District Council for their support, as well as our landlords Oxfordshire County Council whose insurers are progressing the repairs, and we are working with them to ensure the repairs are completed as soon as possible.”

The Mill Arts Centre is keen to point out that although the auditorium is closed for repairs the rest of their building remains open.
