Banbury’s MP is available to support those applying
Local community groups are being encouraged by Banbury’s MP, Sean Woodcock, to bid for funding to host Armed Forces Day events this summer.
The Government has made up to £500,000 available to support celebrations marking Armed Forces Week, aimed at strengthening the connection between society and the military.
Community events can include picnics, parades, musical performances and activities led by local military units and veterans’ charities.
Applications for funding close on March 30.
Mr Woodcock said: “Banbury and North Oxfordshire proudly backs our armed forces community. I’m delighted this Labour government are funding these vital community events and I will proudly back a bid so our whole community can come together.”
“I look forward to celebrating alongside our service personnel in June.”
Armed Forces Day this year is on June 27.

I am an armed forces veteran. I find the spectacle of Sean Woodcock trying to portray himself as a supporter of the Armed Forces deeply offensive. Earlier this year in parliament he voted to remove limited protections from vexatious prosecution for Armed Forces Veterans who served in Northern Ireland without removing the protection from prosecution from SINN FEIN IRA Terrorists. The armed forces community is not a pick and mix. You cannot choose which group of veterans you will support and which you will throw to the wolves – but this is what Mr Woodcock and his government – with the connivance of Lib Dem’s and Greens are doing. Support our veterans. Stop the witch hunt.
