“More extensive repairs” needed in Mill Theatre
21/02/2024
The theatre closures has been extended until to March 23
The repairs to fix the Theatre floor at The Mill Arts Centre in Banbury are going to take longer than anticipated.
A requirement to undertake what’s been described as “more extensive repairs” has been uncovered following further investigative work.
The Theatre has been closed since January 29 when staff discovered damage to the floor. This came after the River Cherwell burst its banks earlier in January, although at the time it was thought that much of the building – including the theatre – hadn’t been affected.
The initial closure period of a week was then extended to last weekend as work continued.
Now, the centre has decided that events in the main auditorium up until March 23 will either be rescheduled or have alternative arrangements made.
Shows hit by the closure include tribute group 21st Century ABBA, an almost sold out night of show songs from Dreamcoat Stars and Strictly Banbury.
In a statement a spokesperson said: “As a small venue and a charity, we thank you for your understanding during this difficult time and we sincerely apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience this will cause for your plans. Please be assured that we are working hard with our partners to resolve the issue as swiftly as possible whilst ensuring the safety of our building and all those who use it.”
Ticket holders for affected events will be contacted with details of the options open to them.
Other areas of the building, such as the art studio, dance studio, long room and Millers Bar are open as normal.
