The man sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital.

Thames Valley Police Investigating officer PC Katie Young said: “I am appealing for witnesses to this collision to please come forward.

“I am also appealing to anyone who was driving in the area and has dash-came footage, to please share this with us.

“Anyone with information can contact us by calling 101 or making an online report, via our website, quoting crime reference number 43250087457.”

Following the collision the A422 remained closed for a couple of hours, with one lane in each direction opened towards the end of lunchtime.
