Victoria Prentis met with Oxford University Hospital’s Trust Chief Executive for a site visit
Work has begun on making improvements to the maternity unit at the Horton General Hospital.
Banbury’s MP Victoria Prentis visited the unit where she met the Chief Executive of the Oxford University Hospital’s Trust, Meghana Pandit. Mrs Prentis spoke to members of the team in the unit and heard about what is being done to improve some of the processes, practices and procedures onsite.
The service, which now operates as a midwife led birthing unit, was rated as “needs improvement” by the Care Quality Commission in March. It was found at times to be putting women and babies at risk, sometimes using medicines not stored at the correct temperatures and having policies which were difficult for staff to follow.
Following her visit Mrs Prentis said that some remedial action had already been taken since the inspection in October. More planned work was expected in the coming weeks, including the installation of a new birthing pool.
Mrs Prentis said: “The team are naturally disappointed with the outcome of the report but remain very optimistic about the future.”
She added: “It is important that expectant mothers are confident that they are receiving the very best care when they choose to have their babies at the Horton. I will continue to remind the Trust of this as progress is made in the coming months.”
