Sean Woodcock has written to the County Council leader
Banbury’s MP has written to Liz Leffman, the leader of Oxfordshire County Council, demanding that the council does all it can to sort out the local pothole epidemic, including securing additional support from the government.
It was announced yesterday that every council in England must publish details of how many potholes they’ve filled. If they do they will receive their full share of £500m of funding, part of the £1.6bn the government is starting to release for highway maintenance from mid-April.
Oxfordshire is set to receive £8.9m. To get the full amount the council must publish annual progress reports.
In the letter Mr Woodcock wrote: “… you will have to up your game – we need to see many more potholes fixed this year than the one before. We need to see the potholes crisis ended.
“Don’t fail us and throw away our share of the additional £500m available to councils like Oxfordshire.
“There can be no excuses – the Labour Government has provided the support you need – now you need to act.”
