Multicultural Banbury celebrated at Eid event

People came together for an afternoon of free food, entertainment and interaction
Hundreds of people attended an Eid celebration at the Hill Community Centre on Sunday afternoon.
Organised by the Sunrise Multicultural Project, the event hoped to bring together people from different communities for an afternoon or free food, music and interaction.
St Leonard’s School began the celebration with the school choir signing two songs. The school’s dance group performed a routine they started rehearsing in September, which has already achieved eighth place out of eighteen in a national school’s dance competition.
In the music room Community Albums were offering a chance to use a drum kit, explore composing and song production and try some DJing.

A number of organisations supported the event, including Banbury Larder and the EMBS Community College, and Kebabish.
Maria Holden, CEO of the Sunrise Multicultural Project, was pleased with how the celebration had gone. She said: “It’s been absolutely amazing. The turn-out has been incredible and it’s been great to see so many different people, different cultures coming along together today to share the celebration of Eid.
“By letting people know a bit more about Sunrise, the work we do and how our main aim is to try and bring communities together. We are open to everybody in Banbury we are truly multicultural.”

The Sunrise Multicultural Project offers a number of regular activities, including ladies drop-ins, a ladies cooking group, football and youth groups and Saturday clubs.
