Mum devastated after theft from son’s Banbury cemetery grave
07/10/2021
Five different thefts have taken place since Wendy Fogden lost her only son in 2017
A local mum has been left devastated after thieves stole items from her son’s grave for a fifth time.
Wendy Fogden, from King Sutton, lost her only son Jon Milenkovic in 2017. Jon, who was known as Tee to his friends, was just 27. He’s buried at the Southam Road cemetery in Banbury.
At Christmas, on his birthday and on special anniversaries Wendy buys gifts for Jon and takes them to his grave. Most recently she purchased a set of solar lights, but like many of the gifts she has purchased in the past these have now been taken.
Previous items that have been stolen include two heart lanterns and a silver dog – Jon used to be accompanied by his pet Jack Russell. Wendy said the loss of the lanterns really upset her as she put them there so her son was never in the dark.
The most recent theft happened whilst the grave was decorated with cards and balloons to mark what would have been Jon’s birthday.
The thefts are affecting Wendy badly. She said: “It just absolutely devastates me: I can’t sleep again; I’m worried about leaving things up there.
“I’m worried about buying him things – it just plays on your mind. Even now I’m shaking thing about it – the pain it causes.
“Its unbearable losing him obviously.
“The worst thing is the thought of them trampling all over him in his resting place. That’s what really gets me.”
